Current Gallery: oneibmplaza ( piece)
The great 20th century architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe died in 1969, before construction began on his design for One IBM Plaza. The 52 story office tower rises to 695 feet in height on the north bank of the Chicago River, at 330 North Wabash Avenue. It was the last Mies building to be completed in America, and is the second tallest of his completed works. The structure is set on an elevated plaza, an imposing dark volume of black anodized aluminum and tinted windows. One IBM Plaza was designated as a Chicago Landmark Building in 2008, and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. The 1,780,000 square foot building was opened in 1971 and the lobby contains a bust of the late architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
